A project by Kelly Mackenzie Sinclair, artist and student at Southampton Solent University, exploring her own autobiography through a series of ‘books’ spread across the web and the city of Southampton.
The project stemmed from an interest in a therapy technique in which service users are asked to create a theoretical box or container to keep unsafe memories or thought patterns in outside of therapy sessions. Building on this and the artist’s own tendency to attempt to categorize and contain separate elements of her own life, she asked what would happen if she let people into her own metaphorical containers.
This project is the opening of the doors to the personal history of the artist, the contents of which include love, turbulent family relationships and violence.
This first set of books in this series is being shown as part of the ‘UNCONTAINED’ exhibition to be opened in Guildhall Square in April 2017.
